In recent years, there has been a growing demand for high-speed and low insertion loss, which has led to the increased use of MT (Mechanically Transferable) ferrule in several applications. What is the MT Ferrule?
MT ferrule is a multi-fiber, plastic ferrule with a square end-face of 6.4x2.5mm and 0.25mm fiber pitch between adjacent fiber holes widely used in MPO/MTP connectors. The alignment mechanism includes two stainless steel guide pins that fit into precisely molded alignment holes. Different from ferrule used in other fiber connectors, MT ferrule within an MPO/MTP connector is made from a monolithic, high-precision glass-filled polymer rather than a ceramic material. It can connect multiple fibers with high-precision and high-density technology to achieve low loss in each fiber. MT ferrule is typically made of PPS(Polyphenylene Sulfide) and can be terminated with various connector types.

What is the Main Function of MT Ferrule?
The main function of MT ferrule is to realize the precise physical docking of optical fiber. Thus, it can realize high density and precision connection of multiple optical fibers, and each optical fiber has low loss performance. MT ferrules manufactured by high-precision mold technology meet international standards such as IEC 61754-3-31, GR-135, etc. It is available in 4, 8, 12, 16, 24,32, 36, 48 and 72-fiber MT  ferrule types.

MT ferrule plays an important role in the connection as a key component in MPO/MTP connectors.
